In his compelling memoir, All the Rage, Paulie Stewart takes readers on a wild, deeply human journey through a life lived loud — and lived well. Best known as the driving force behind legendary punk band Painters and Dockers, Paulie’s story is as much about music as it is about resilience.

St Kilda Historical Society committee member, Sally Moore, will host an extraordinary evening with Paulie exploring and probing the events behind the tales in All the Rage.

From his formative years in St Kilda to the raw grief of losing his brother Tony Stewart — one of the Balibo Five — and surviving his own near-death experience, Paulie’s life is a rollercoaster of triumph, tragedy, and unbreakable spirit. Nothing – and no one – can keep him down, as you’ll discover.

A proud son of inner-Melbourne, Paulie was the first winner of the Essence of St Kilda essay prize and remains a cultural icon of the area. With Painters and Dockers, he helped shape Australia’s punk scene, performing over 1,500 gigs across Australia, New Zealand, and North America, and earning a place in The Age Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.

Sally Moore produced the podcast Unplugged in St Kilda, a series of interviews documenting the history of music in St Kilda from the 1970s to the 1990s. Sally joined the Society in 2020, bringing her media, publicity, and digital skills to update the website’s mansion listings and build St Kilda's music archives.
