St Kilda RMYS Marina and St Kilda Breakwater
Society members enjoyed a unique opportunity to learn more about St Kilda's little penguin colony while contributing directly to its conservation.
Working in small teams at both the RMYS Marina and the St Kilda Breakwater, participants assisted with counting penguins as they returned from feeding at sea and swam ashore in groups, known as "rafts", at sunset. The observations collected during the evening contribute to ongoing research into penguin arrival patterns and population trends across different seasons and environmental conditions.
Managed by Earthcare St Kilda, the event gave members a rare behind-the-scenes insight into the monitoring and conservation of one of St Kilda's most distinctive wildlife populations. As daylight faded, participants observed the penguins' evening return while learning about their behaviour, habitat and the challenges involved in protecting the colony in an urban environment.

The evening provided members with a memorable hands-on conservation experience and a greater appreciation of one of St Kilda's most remarkable natural attractions.
