7:10 pm - 9:15 pm
St Kilda RMYS Marina
St Kilda Breakwater

St Kilda Historical Society members have an exclusive opportunity to see and learn more about St Kilda’s unique little penguin colony while directly helping to protect it.

Join one of two x 5 member teams to help count the penguins as they swim home in groups (rafts) at sunset.

The data will add to what is known about arrival patterns and population trends across different seasons and environmental conditions.

Earthcare St Kilda is managing this event and all bookings. There are no fitness requirements for either of the teams but just a couple of considerations for each location.

Marina Team - 5 places
The Marina Team will be at the RMYS marina. The platform is flat, though surrounded by water, and the penguins are easier to see. To join the Marina Team book HERE

Breakwater Team - 5 places
The Breakwater Team will be at the end of the breakwater. Penguins are a little further away, so good eyesight helps. The breakwater surface is uneven and rocky. However, there is no rush and the team will walk slowly to ensure safety. It will be dark when it is time to leave but red lights are used to guide the way back. This is a free member only event. Bookings are essential, and limited to one ticket per member.

The Society runs numerous historical talks and walks throughout the year. Our events are free and open to Society members only. Members receive information about upcoming events through our newsletter. You can join the Society for just $25 per year.
