Sunday 19 April 2026

2:00pm - 4:00pm
Meet on the Esplanade - across the road from The Espy, near the footbridge.

David Brand will lead an afternoon member walk exploring the architectural and cultural history of Fitzroy Street, starting at the St Kilda foreshore.

David Brand

Through its streetscapes and architecture, members will track St Kilda’s social roller-coaster ride through history – from the area’s heyday as an exclusive resort, through its low-point as Melbourne’s place of last resort, and back up to whatever sort of place we might argue it is today.

David has lived on the St Kilda Foreshore for over 40 years, practising as an architect and teaching architectural history and design at various universities.
He is a well known local heritage and planning activist, has served two terms as a City of Port Phillip councillor, and was elected to the Society’s Committee of Management last year.

This is a free member only event. Booking essential. As the walk can only cater for 20 people, we have limited bookings to one ticket per member, to ensure more members can join the walk.
