    1927 CHILDREN'S PARTY AT "EURETTA" DELIGHTFUL children's party was given by Mr and Mrs W. T.  Crosbie at their beautiful home. "Euretta," Alfred Square, St. Kilda,

     

    and Margaret Crosbie.

    'Euretta', erected about 1857 for Thomas Marney Crosby [sic], first used as a boarding school, run by Sophie Mathieu, and later occupied by the Crosby family. Raggatt, 'St Kilda', p 34, App A, pp 10-11. Burgess roll gives 'Crosbie'. Black's map shows it apparently complete by 1854. After the Crosby family, occupied by Germain Nicholson, 1872-86. Demolished in the 1960s. Argus, 9 July 1879, p 8. SWS, tenders wanted for fencing to res of Germain Nicholson.      From Black's Survey the Building was described as constructed of brick and stone and certainly completed by 1854, Archer, 'Great Britain SS', pp 19-20. Archer visits Crosbie on 26 April 1857 'Mr Crosbie, a wealthy gentleman who has a beaurtiful house here. The drawing room was one of the most handsome I ever was in ...' Sinclair, Beauties, of house of T M Crosbie - �There is not a better built, fenced, or more tastefully decorated building in the vicinity of Melbourne ... The lofty gates and flower beds now forming all match with the stately edifice ... splendid pile of brickwork� Not found directories 1857,1858,1859,1862. TS Note: Argus, 6 Aug 1853, p 4.
