    Evora was built as the for Francis Grey Smith (1827-1900) in 1865.  

    Smith was at various times manager of the Bank of Australasia, chief manager og the National Bank of australasia, lay canon ahd treasurer at St Paul's Cathedral and president of the Melbourne Club and the Melbourne Cricket Club (1886-1900). A grandstand at the MCG has been named after him.
