Named after Frederick Gonnerman Dalgety, merchant and financier. Born in Canada, he moved to Melbourne in 1842 and managed a wool firm. He also moved into the gold trade. Many Australian stores imported goods through Dalgety.

A single storey house built before 1873, demolished around WWI
Eden terrace was first built as a row of 10 Regency style two storey terraces with partial basements. A two storey verandah was added in 1883, and in 1917 each terrace was converted into three flats. In the 1990s the frontage was largely restored to its late 19th century appearance.
Kara was a terrace-style house built c1870, with an unsual rustic timber vernadah. The house was comprehenively altered and added to in 1926 to create Kara Mansions flats.
