History The Vardy Index for the 1873 Vardy Map (WW no. 5) shows The Hon James Stewart Johnston MLA owned all blocks numbered 43 to 50 Esplanade. These now translate to Numbers 1 to 7 The Esplanade. The address for Marli Terrace now translates to 3-7 The Esplanade, with the separate property, “Marli”, located behind it albeit with its own address on the Esplanade (see separate listing). Marli Terrace was built for Johnston by Canadian William Spottiswood, however records show Johnston and his family actually lived in “Marli” the house, rather than Marli Terrace. In 1924, the Johnston Estate sold off "Seaforth", “The Chummerie/y” (Tourello, Marli) and “Marli Terrace” in one big sale.
