New St Kilda Baths - no mixed bathing A scheme has been has been completed for the reconstruction of the bathing establishment on the lower Esplanade, St Kilda known as "Hegarty's Gentlemen's Baths". The original buildings when first erected, were in deep water, but the sand has silted up and landed the old structure hit and dry on the foreshore. These buildings will now be removed, and the beach resumed by the newly formed St Kilda Shore Trust for the general public.…[description follows] The baths are being erected by the St Kilda Baths Pty Ltd from the designs of Nahum Barnet, architect, and are being erected by Mr T. H. Gwilliam, builder. The hot water service is being installed by Messrs. Macgregor and Combs engineers, and the electric light arc lamps and installation by the Electric Light and Traction Company Ltd. |
