Ardoch Village, East St Kilda
Members joined Alan Baskin, Society President and Ardoch resident, for a guided walk through the extensive grounds of Ardoch Village, exploring the rich history of this significant 19th century residential development.
Members learned about the site's evolution over more than 160 years, beginning with the construction of the 13-room mansion Dulquhurn in 1864, first occupied by renowned architect William Wilkinson Wardell. The walk also examined the history of neighbouring Cliefden, built several years later on the corner of Dandenong Road and Pilley Street, and the transformation of the estate in the 1920s under developer Alexander Mackie Younger, who converted Dulquhurn into flats and constructed additional apartment buildings within the former mansion grounds.
Through Alan's insights and local knowledge, members gained a deeper understanding of the changing character of Ardoch Village and its place within the broader history of East St Kilda.
