    1880 Pladda built by Captain A Currie

    1958 Musician Leo Rosner opened the Moulin Rouge Nightclub. 

    1927 - 1958 William Bertram and Marjorie Bentley took over Pladda i then know as Berley  and run as a private hotel.
    'It was very grand with a mahogany staircase, large stainglass windows, a veranda, tennis courts, circular driveway and formal dining room with waiters in Black Tie.'
     1945 during the war it was occupied by Melbourne Grammar and was then accommodation for Dutch servicemen, then after the war it became the Berley Hotel 
     
    Her father Howard Bertram Bentley was a garage proprietor then a builder-estate agent. She says he built all the flats (except one block) in Garden Court (just off Dickens St south of Gardens). She also says they owned a flat at Aston Court 43 Acland St - that's the Spanish Mission looking building a few doors from Phillip on the corner of Bessiere Place. Throughout the 1940s her parents lived at 3 Church Square, a block of red brick flats. They owned-leased the Village Belle Market and also the Camberwell Junction market.
     
    1954 when it became the nightclub Moulin Rouge.
